Great Bright Red Catalin Emerson "Patriot" by Industrial Designer Bel Geddes
Striking Bright Red Catalin Art Deco Emerson 'Patriot' model FC-400 designed in 1940 by industrial designer Norman Bel Geddes. With war looming over Europe and becoming an increasing threat to the USA, this radio's theme struck a chord with American radio buyers, who turned it into a best seller for Emerson. Bel Geddes sought to promote American technology, industry, and identity, through the use of the stars-and-stripes design of the radio. This 'Patriot' design in turn helped bolster national pride during the difficult years of the Great Depression. The bright red Catalin cabinet retains its original factory gloss and is in perfect condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. This model's fragile tenite/plastic grill, which is prone to deterioration, is original and in beautiful condition showing only a mild warp and scuffs. Emerson 'Strad' CV-298 Radio - Rare Square Dial Version
Rare Square-Dial Violin Designed Emerson Radio
The seldom seen Emerson 'Stradivarius' Model CV-298 Square-Dial version radio in stripped walnut. Here is your chance to add this highly desirable example known as a Square-Dial 'Strad' and not the more commonly found D-Dial CH-256 to your collection. By 1939 radios had advanced to having an internal loop antenna and the D-Dial CL-256 didn't have enough room inside the cabinet for the antenna; therefore Emerson had Ingraham slightly increase all the measurements of the CL to accommodate the new CV-298 chassis + antenna. This 1939 radio design has to be one of the most beautiful Ingraham cabinets made. The radio's elegant violin shape, sounding cutouts and grille bars that resemble the strings of a violin are unlike any other radio. This is a Radio has been cosmetically restored back to its original beauty really making the stripped walnut pop. The radio was a very clean example prior to restoration, and it had no missing or chipped veneers on case or the wrap around inlays. The richness of the all original veneers used by Ingraham have a remarkable depth of color that is just stunning. Please view all photos to see the incredible workmanship and design of this radio. The radio still retains its original black bakelite knobs, metal Ingraham tag and CV-298 stamping on the bottom. Emerson 511 "Moderne" Green Bakelite Raymond Loewy Designed Mid-Century Radio
Great Gold + Black Swirls
Retro Raymond Loewy Designed Emerson 511 in Pistachio Green Plaskon with great gold marbling made in 1947. The radio is also refereed to as the "Moderne" and is a highly collectible eye-catching radio. The design is credited to famous industrial designer Raymond Loewy, the designer of Deco locomotives, Studebakers, and many well-known corporate logos. The radio features a design unlike any other. The clear plastic bubble dial cover floats over the gold painted metallic grill, which covers much of the front. A block of ivory Plaskon, whose back has a recess for the pilot light, anchors the dial cover to the cabinet at its top. When you turn on the radio, the illuminated block sheds a soft light over the dial, a beautiful effect in a darkened room. Radio has a cleverly designed molded handle on the top that also served to ventilate the set, as this set is closed on all sides and is designed to be viewed from all angles. The radio is in original, untouched condition, with a beautiful and natural gloss and is just a great example of this Raymond Loewy Emerson radio. The beautiful and brightly colored marbleized pistachio green Plaskon Bakelite cabinet is in great original condition, with no chips, major cracks, burns or repairs. All the case has are two very small hairlines. These hairlines in no way detract from the beauty of this set. The fist hairline can be seen to the left of the logo by speaker grill, a common area for this set to have a hairline. The second is a small 3/4" brownish line in the left side of the radio towards the bottom that can barely be seen even when looking for it. The original plastic dial bubble has a small amount of warp and yellowing, normal for this model. The gold painted metal perforated mesh grill has a few small areas of oxidation/wear. Radio retains the original ivory Plaskon knobs and manufacturers sticker on the bottom and inside of case. Radio measures approximately: 11.5" wide x 7.5" high x 6.5" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician.
