Great Color 1940's Addison Waterfall Design
Light Yellow with Bright Red Catalin Addison 2 tube radio made circa 1940 by Addison Industries Limited in Canada. The unique styling and bold use of color would make this radio a truly beautiful addition to any collection. This stylized Art Deco radio features the famous 'waterfall' speaker grill trim and surround bumpers' with speed-lines that really make for a streamlined radio design. This radio model + color is prominently featured on the cover of 'Classic Plastic Radios of the 1930s and 1940s' by John Sideli.. The light yellow color is highlighted with its contrasting bright red trim. The radio is in original, untouched condition, and is just a stunning example of this catalin Addison model. The glossy catalin cabinet has a beautiful even patina and is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or repairs. The red catalin trim is complete and factory original to the radio and has no cracks, chips or repairs. The original matching yellow catalin 'pinwheel' knobs are also free of imperfections. Beautiful + Rare FADA model 149 (L-56) catalin radio in highly marbleized Emerald Green with butterscotch wrap-around grille + knobs. This Art Deco catalin model made in 1939 by FADA Radio + Electric Company has a beautiful design and size. This seldom seen emerald green + butterscotch catalin example is a beautiful example with great swirls and vibrancy. The model 149 differs from a model L-56 in a few ways; the knobs are gumdrop shape, the dial is different and marked Fada rather than having a water-slide decal and chassis is stamped 149. The vibrant emerald green cabinet is highly marbleized with yellow, darker and lighter green veins. The vibrant green catalin cabinet and handle are free of cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs....this is a great example. The marbleized butterscotch insert grill and gumdrop knobs are original to the radio and have no damage. Clear dial plastic cover and water-slide decal are correct replacements. Stunning Kadette 'Clockette' K25 catalin radio in heavily marbleized green. This great 1937 radio was made by the International Radio Corp. in Ann Arbor, Michigan The 'Clockette' with its elegant cube design, etched grooves that wrap around and its distinctive 'clock ' style brass dial bezel is unlike any other catalin radio. The tones of green, yellow, clear and brown add depth to an already beautiful radio. This about the most marbleized green Kadette I have owned. The radio is in original, untouched condition, and is just a great example of this Kadette 'Clockette' model. The marbleized green catalin radio cabinet has an incredible gloss. Radio cabinet has no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. The matching green catalin knobs and back knob are perfect and original to the radio. Beautiful Bright Red Catalin Art Deco Emerson 'Patriot' model FC-400 designed in 1940 by industrial designer Norman Bel Geddes. With war looming over Europe and becoming an increasing threat to the USA, this radio's theme struck a chord with American radio buyers, who turned it into a best seller for Emerson. Bel Geddes sought to promote American technology, industry, and identity, through the use of the stars-and-stripes design of the radio. This 'Patriot' design in turn helped bolster national pride during the difficult years of the Great Depression. This example would make for a wonderful addition to a radio or deco collection The bright red Catalin cabinet retains its original factory gloss and is in perfect condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. This model's fragile tenite/plastic grill, which is prone to deterioration, is original and in beautiful condition showing only a mild warp and scuffs. Prewar Fada model 53 / 5F50 Catalin radio in marbleized alabaster with highly marbleized lapis-lazuli blue insert grill. This is a wonderful Art Deco model made in 1938 by FADA Radio + Electric Company has a beautiful design and size. This alabaster and blue example is original and in great condition with a beautiful glossy finish. Blue grill has striking white and blue marbleizing that gives it depth. The glossy alabaster catalin cabinet is highlighted by beautiful clear + lighter white marbleizing that really adds depth to the cabinet. This is a striking radio color combination for this model. Catalin cabinet, insert grill + fluted knobs are original to the radio and are free of cracks, chips and repairs. The beautifully marbleized cabinet has been polished back to the original factory alabaster. The marbleized blue grill has been polished back to the original factory bright lapis-lazuli blue. Cabinet has a slight tube burn common to this model. Clear dial plastic cover and water slide decal are correct replacements. Sparton 558 considered one of the Best Examples of Deco Streamline Design
Great original blue mirror Sparton '4-knob' 558 radio designed by Walter Dorwin Teague for the Sparks-Worthington Company from Jackson, Michigan in 1937. The radio, known as the 'sled' or '4-knob' is a considered to be one of the best examples of Deco Streamline style. The radio features etched blue mirrors on the front, top and left side, with crystalline finish ebony lacquer finish and 5 chrome fins or speed-lines. The asymmetric, geometric shapes and accent designs are distinctively art deco in appearance. The mirrors were etched in such a way as to give the illusion of having multiple layers of glass. Radio is in great all-original condition and is free of chips, or cracks to the all-original midnight blue mirrors. The original mirrors have minor wear consistent with age and use like they all have.......the original glass is beautiful and bright with only minor surface scratches consistent with age + use. The wood 'sled' base has original ebony lacquer in nice original condition with the crystalline finish still visible.The four knobs are original to the radio. Chrome fins have retain the original chrome in wonderful condition with only some small signs of age. Catalin General Television 591 Radio in Turquoise Blue - Rare
Highly Marbliezed Catalin General Television Radio
Beautiful + Rare Turquoise General Television 591 catalin radio, with beautiful contrasting ivory handle, grill, knobs, and dial trim. Made by General Television Radio Corp of Chicago, Illinois, model 591 is the only Catalin model made by the company. The cabinet on the Catalin GTV has great turquoise, white + clear swirls that add depth to the radio. The bronze face features a stunning textured deco sunburst pattern, with a red Saturn shaped station indicator, beneath which 'General Television' appears. This is the rarest of the 3-catalin colors made of this great Art Deco radio and is seldom seen. This original radio has beautiful gloss and is just a superb example of this General Television radio. Radio has been hand cut/polished back to the original turquoise factory color - this is as intense as they get color wise when original. Cabinet has no cracks, chips or tube burns; however it does have a small hairline on the bottom back screw hole that can not be seen when displayed and mild discoloration/fading of the color which is a common occurrence on this rare radio. Pastel colored radios had the tendency to get more harmed by UV rays then other colors. The ivory polystyrene trim is complete and original to the radio and has no cracks, chips, burns or repairs. Beautiful small Tom Thumb Catalin radio made in the late 1930s by the Automatic Radio Mfg. Co. The model 955 is known to collectors as the 'Oval-Dial' The Tom Thumb name is a perfect fit for this radio - as it is one of the smallest radios made of catalin. This model has a design that is unique with attached Catalin feet, an oval-shaped dial face, Deco grill cutouts, and vertically positioned knobs. This faintly marbleized butterscotch example is all original + in great condition with a beautiful glossy finish. The warm yellow marbleized catalin cabinet has no chips or repairs; however it does have a small hairline on the bottom of cabinet (left corner) and a small hairline on the backside of applied foot. These two small defects can not be seen when radio is displayed. Cabinet has a small tube burn (common for this model). The two original yellow catalin feet and back foot are original + have the original blue painted stripes. The yellow catalin knobs have nice marbleizing, these were machined from original catalin years ago and are exact replacements. Grill cloth is in beautiful condition. Beautiful Motorola 52 catalin radio in marbleized sand color with tortoise trim. This model is part of a series of three different Catalin cabinet radios produced by Motorola. Manufactured in 1939 by Motorola Radio also known to collectors as the 'Vertical Grill'. The sand colored catalin is highlighted by swirls of orange, brown and yellow to add depth to the color. The translucent tortoise trim makes for a harmonious color combination. The details in the design are unique with its vertically louvered grill which feathers out from the center to the left + right and hexagonal knobs make for an unusual design and highly sought after radio. The cabinet features streamlined hand incised ridges that stretch around the case bringing all the elements together while adding to the geometric aspect of the radio. The golden dial face is also decorated with deco numerals and the Motorola logo written in script. This is an exquisitely crafted Art Deco radio. The catalin cabinet has a gloss that makes it's beautiful sand, orange, butterscotch, yellow, clear and brown colors glow. Great Swirls on this Rare Blue 1946 FADA 700 Radio
Beautiful + Rare Fada model 700 'Cloud' catalin radio in marbleized blue with ivory. The Catalin model 700 'Cloud' was made starting in 1946 by the FADA Radio & Electric Co. This model was one of three new designs for the postwar period. The original blue catalin, which has taken on a beautiful bluish-green and yellow swirl patina, is the rarest color to find. The shiny blueish-green cabinet has intense yellow swirls running throughout that give appearance of depth. Cabinet has no cracks, chips, burn marks, or repairs. It is uncommon to find a blue 700 in as perfect a condition. The ivory pearlized plastic handle and knobs are original to the radio and are also in perfect condition. Emerson AX-235 'Little Miracle' Catalin Radio in Maroon
Exceedingly Rare Maroon Emerson Little Miracle
This ultra rare maroon Emerson AX-235 'Little-Miracle' Catalin Radio with black trim. Manufactured in 1938 by Emerson Radio + Television this is Emerson's first example of a small Catalin table radio that also features a unique louvered insert grill. The maroon/merlot un-marbleized cabinet with the black tenite/plastic trim makes for a rare + striking color combination and is only one of two know to exist. The two examples that exist vary from a regular Little Miracle in 2 ways; the front edges of radio are sharp(not as rounded) and the knobs are a different style than that of other Little Miracles. The beautiful maroon/merlot cabinet has had a small hole next to right knob that has been professionally repaired years ago, this example has been in my personal collection. Repair can only be detected when looking at inside of cabinet. This models fragile plastic black grill + knobs which are prone to deterioration have been replaced with correct replacements. Stunning + Rare Emerson AX-235 'Little-Miracle' Catalin Radio in highly marbleized lapis lazuli blue. Manufactured in 1938 by Emerson Radio + Television this is Emerson's first example of a small Catalin table radio that also features a unique louvered insert grill. This stunning blue catalin radio is accentuated by the streaks of white that run throughout the cabinet adding depth to a great radio. The small size of this radio combined with the great color and contrasting trim really makes for a stunning Art Deco radio. The beautiful lapis lazuli cabinet has no big cracks, chips or repairs; however it does have one small + tight hairline at the left bottom corner of the grill opening. Most blue Little Miracles I have seen have a lot of damage, this is among the least damaged example I have seen. This models fragile ivory plastic grill + knobs that are prone to deterioration have been replaced with correct replacements. Water-slide decal, clear dial plastic are correct replacements.
