Rarely Seen Blue Sentinel Catalin Radio

Rare Catalin Sentinel 284 'Outline Grill' radio in marbleized lapis-lazuli blue (oxidized to green) with butterscotch trim. Finding an example of this radio in blue is extremely difficult as only a few exist. The original bluish-green patina on this radio is beautiful with it's strong veins of yellow with tones of blue running through it that makes this an incredible example. This set would make this radio a truly beautiful addition to any collection. This radio was made circa 1945 by The Sentinel Radio Company of Evanston, Illinois Known to collectors as 'outline grill' Sentinel, the designers surely drew inspiration from the automotive world. Along with the catalin speaker grill surround and the slant front frequency indicator, the dial glass allows for easy viewing from above the radio as well, and acts as an additional architectural touch to make an already attractive radio into a true work of art. The radio is just a stunning example of a blue catalin Sentinel model 284 that has only been lightly polished to a high gloss while preserving the great original patina. The catalin cabinet is perfect with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs and has beautiful intense marbleizing that really adds depth to the cabinet; however it does have a tiny chip on the rear back panel retaining hole which is common to this model....this is not visible from the outside with back panel on. The chunky yellow catalin grill surround and knobs are original and in great condition with no cracks, chips, burns or repairs. The grill cloth, dial glass + back panel are original to the radio and show minimal signs of age. Radio has small scratches consistent with age + use of set. Emerson 'Aristocrat' Radio model 400 in a marbleized tortoise brown cabinet or Circassian Onyx as referred to by Emerson. This radio was designed in 1940 by industrial designer Norman Bel Geddes. The marbleized tortoise brown catalin cabinet has beautiful brown, orange and yellow marbleizing that makes this radio stand out. This radio is absolutely stunning and would make a fantastic addition to a collection. The brown catalin cabinet is in perfect condition with no cracks, tube burns or repairs. This model's fragile tan and brown tenite/plastic grill is original and in good condition with some signs of age. Beautiful Blue front Sparton Cloisonné with yellow catalin cabinet. The Sparton Cloisonné model 500C radio introduced in 1939 is a veritable Art Deco masterpiece designed by Walter Dorwin Teague. Its compact housing features a colorful metallic blue cloisonné front, exquisitely trimmed with a streamline lace-work of chrome and framed with yellow catalin housing. This is the only radio designed that combines all three materials. The marbleized butterscotch catalin cabinet is in good condition; however it does have a repaired/bonded crack on the right side of the cabinet towards the bottom edge that goes onto the bottom a little (see last photo). This can not be seen when displayed. Radio has a mild tube burn, common to this model due to size. The bright metallic blue Cloisonné front is free of any damage and chrome is great. Color coordinated grill cloth is original to the set and in great condition with only light staining. Ivory plastic knobs are correct replacements. Radio has been well taken care of and only shows some fine scratches consistent with age + use. This is a beautiful example of a radio that is seldom offered for sale. The Motorola 'Circle-Grille' model is a magnificent, exquisitely crafted Art Deco radio manufactured in 1940 by Motorola Radio. This Motorola design is considered one of the most appealing sets of its time beautifully designed in the Art Deco Style. The details are unique with its round catalin speaker bezel, scalloped handle, and hexagonal knobs. The cabinet features streamlined ridges that stretch around the case bringing all the elements together. The silver dial face is also decorated with deco numerals and sunburst designs that emanate from a red plastic dial pointer with the letter "M" cast in to it. The tortoise catalin has a deep shine that makes its rich color glow and shows off exceptionally striking colorful, yellow + orange marbleizing. This is a great example of the Bendix 526C Catalin radio in a fantastic highly marbleized jadeite green with bluish-turquoise tones and black Catalin. This Art Deco Bendix Tube Radio made circa 1946 is extremely stylish with the marbleized green cabinet and contrasting black front, a color combination only found on this model catalin radio. This has to be the best example that I have owned. The Art Deco styling of this model is stylish and solid. The contrasting black Catalin front brings the green and bluish tones alive. This model radio incorporates both a unique design + construction. The swirled green catalin top + sides are molded into one U-shaped piece that fits down over the black catalin piece which forms the front and base of the radio The two rounded corner pieces that bolt onto either side of the dial are a unique feature unlike anything found on any other radio. Radio is in beautiful original condition and retains a beautiful natural gloss that shows off the vivid marbleized color. Cabinet and trim are in very perfect original condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. Manufactured in 1938 by Emerson Radio + Television this is Emerson's first example of a small Catalin table radio that also features a unique louvered insert grill. This stunning blue catalin radio is accentuated by the streaks of white that run throughout the cabinet adding depth to a great radio. The small size of this radio combined with the great color and contrasting trim really makes for a stunning Art Deco radio. This seldom seen emerald green + butterscotch catalin example is a beautiful example with great swirls and vibrancy. The model 149 differs from a model L-56 in a few ways; the knobs are gumdrop shape, the dial is different and marked Fada rather than having a water-slide decal and chassis is stamped 149. The vibrant emerald green cabinet is highly marbleized with yellow, darker and lighter green veins. The vibrant green catalin cabinet and handle are free of cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs....this is a great example. With war looming over Europe and becoming an increasing threat to the USA, this radio's theme struck a chord with American radio buyers, who turned it into a best seller for Emerson. Bel Geddes sought to promote American technology, industry, and identity, through the use of the stars-and-stripes design of the radio. This 'Patriot' design in turn helped bolster national pride during the difficult years of the Great Depression. This is a wonderful Art Deco model made in 1938 by FADA Radio + Electric Company has a beautiful design and size. This alabaster and blue example is original and in great condition with a beautiful glossy finish. Blue grill has striking white and blue marbleizing that gives it depth. The glossy alabaster catalin cabinet is highlighted by beautiful clear + lighter white marbleizing that really adds depth to the cabinet. This is a striking radio color combination for this model. Great original blue mirror Sparton '4-knob' 558 radio designed by Walter Dorwin Teague for the Sparks-Worthington Company from Jackson, Michigan in 1937. The radio, known as the 'sled' or '4-knob' is a considered to be one of the best examples of Deco Streamline style. The radio features etched blue mirrors on the front, top and left side, with crystalline finish ebony lacquer finish and 5 chrome fins or speed-lines. The asymmetric, geometric shapes and accent designs are distinctively art deco in appearance. The mirrors were etched in such a way as to give the illusion of having multiple layers of glass. Radio is in great all-original condition and is free of chips, or cracks to the all-original midnight blue mirrors. The original mirrors have minor wear consistent with age and use like they all have.......the original glass is beautiful and bright with only minor surface scratches consistent with age + use. The wood 'sled' base has original ebony lacquer in nice original condition with the crystalline finish still visible.The four knobs are original to the radio. Chrome fins have retain the original chrome in wonderful condition with only some small signs of age. This is a prime example of a highly sought after Art Deco radio that is matched by no other manufacturer in its flair and presence. Radio measures approximately: 18" wide by 8.75" high by 8" deep. Beautiful + Rare Turquoise General Television 591 catalin radio, with beautiful contrasting ivory handle, grill, knobs, and dial trim. Made by General Television Radio Corp of Chicago, Illinois, model 591 is the only Catalin model made by the company. The cabinet on the Catalin GTV has great turquoise, white + clear swirls that add depth to the radio. The bronze face features a stunning textured deco sunburst pattern, with a red Saturn shaped station indicator, beneath which 'General Television' appears. This is the rarest of the 3-catalin colors made of this great Art Deco radio and is seldom seen. This original radio has beautiful gloss and is just a superb example of this General Television radio. Radio has been hand cut/polished back to the original turquoise factory color - this is as intense as they get color wise when original. Cabinet has no cracks, chips or tube burns; however it does have a small hairline on the bottom back screw hole that can not be seen when displayed and mild discoloration/fading of the color which is a common occurrence on this rare radio. Pastel colored radios had the tendency to get more harmed by UV rays then other colors. The ivory polystyrene trim is complete and original to the radio and has no cracks, chips, burns or repairs. The dial plastic is also original and in great condition. Radio measures approximately: 8.75" Wide, 5.5" Deep, and 7" Tall to the top of the handle. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete, original cord is cracked and should be replaced.
