Striking American Art Deco Air King Radio Design
Rare and beautiful Red Air King 'Skyscraper' Model 66 radio with the 'Globe' insert, a true American Art Deco icon. John Sideli in his book "Classic Plastic Radios of the 30's and 40's called it "one of the most important plastic radios ever made". This red Plaskon Air King Model 66 was designed by Harold Van Doren + John Gordon Rideout for the Air King Products Company of New York in 1933. This early model constructed of Plaskon (an early plastic), has the Globe insert on its deco waterfall facade. The fragile nature of the Air King radios has made them extremely rare + desirable. Radio is all-original + in great original condition with only small scratches and blemishes that are a common for Air King radios consistent with manufacturing process, age and use. Globes, chrome surround and convex glass covering globes are original + perfect. Black dial face with Atlas holding the world on his shoulders is is bright and perfect. The three Black bakelite knobs with inset red plaskon + the red blue top bars are original to the radio. Radio retains the original grill cloth and cardboard bottom panel. Stunning Tear-Drop Climax Radio
This Art Deco Climax 'Ruby’ Tear-Drop design model 35 radio is a rarity made by the Climax Radio & Television Co out of Chicago, Illinois in 1937. This truly is a spectacular Art Deco streamlined designed radio example that is seldom found especially with the tuning-eye. The graceful yet dynamic styling of this 'tear-drop' cabinet makes a strong Art Deco statement not seen in many radios of the time period. The beautiful striped walnut veneers accentuate the graceful streamlining of the radio that is also highlighted by a black painted base, brass dial and tuning eye escutcheons. Climax Radio definitely produced some great Art Deco radios while they were in business. The radios’ cabinet has a beautiful older restoration that really makes the veneers really stand out on the polished black base. Rarely seen striking Black Catalin Emerson 'Aristocrat' Radio model 400 designed in 1940 by industrial designer Norman Bel Geddes. The ebony catalin has light blue marbleizing that makes this unusually colored radio stand out. The trim (knobs, handle, grill and pointer) unlike other Aristocrat models is jet black and not brown. This is only of only a few in extant and is therefore an extremely rare find. This Art Deco model made in 1938 by FADA Radio + Electric Company has a beautiful design and size. The "W" designation in the model number was due to the white catalin cabinet rather than the usual black cabinet found with the red front. Beautiful RCA W-Grille Catalin Radio
Small + beautiful marbled yellow RCA Catalin RC-350 Yellow W-Grille Radio. This Art Deco model is unusual with its small vertical dial trimmed in brass, side-mounted knobs and elaborate grill cutout. This model has become known to collectors as the "W-Grille or Tulip-Grille" RCA model. Radio has a beautiful gloss and is all original and in fantastic condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs. Ivory plaskon knobs are original to the radio and also in free of defects. Radio retains the original gold textured fabric grill cloth and manufacturers label affixed to bottom. Water-slide decal is a correct replacement. Radio has small scratches consistent with age + use of set. Small radio measure approximately: 7" wide by 4.75" high by 4.25" deep. Superb Example of an Early FADA 5F60 Catalin Radio
Beautiful + Rare Fada 5F60 Catalin radio in marbleized yellow with a translucent tortoise insert grill. This rare prewar 1936/37 is one of the earliest catalin radio models made and has a simple and distinct cabinet design. This model has come to be known to collectors as the 'Baby Fada' because of its small size. This yellow and tortoise example is all-original and in great condition with a beautiful glossy finish, the translucent and swirled tortoise grille adds contrast and style to this stunning example. This is an uncommon color combination. The marbleized cabinet is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs. The bright tortoise catalin insert grill is beautifully marblelized and is also free of cracks, chips or repairs. Catalin fluted knobs are original and also have no cracks, chips or repairs. Clear dial plastic cover + Fada decal are correct replacements. This beautiful FADA has been well taken care of and has very few small scratches consistent with light use and age. This is truly a great example of an all-original early FADA model. The radio measures 7.75" wide by 5" high by 4.75" deep.
