Stunning + Rare Example of a Blue Highly Swirled FADA Catalin 659 Temple
Rare FADA 656 Shortwave 'Temple' Catalin radio in incredibly marbleized lapis-lazuli blue with yellow trim. The bright blue cabinet has veins of white with tones of blue and clear running through it that makes this an incredible example. This rarely seen blue example was part of the 1940-1942 radio lineup. The original yellow trim adds contrast and style to this example of a FADA Temple model. The shortwave model differs from the Fada 652 Temple in a couple ways; chassis has lever on the rear of the to change the bands, red/gold glass dial face shows shortwave/broadcast bands. It is not often you see a Fada 659 Temple. The glossy Catalin cabinet is perfect with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs and has beautiful intense marbleizing that really adds depth to the cabinet. Radio has been cut/polished back to its factory original blue color with a great glossy finish. The yellow catalin dial surround and fluted knobs are original to this radio and in perfect condition. Radio retains its original gold grill cloth with mild signs of age as expected, and the cardboard back panel. The graphic reverse painted Shortwave 659 dial glass is original and in great condition. This beautiful FADA has been well taken care of and has very few small scratches consistent with light use. Beautiful translucent + marbleized Onyx Green Fada 5F60 Catalin radio. This rare prewar 1936/37 is one of the earliest catalin radio models made and has a simple and distinct cabinet design. This beautifully swirled example is all-original with a beautiful glossy finish. This model has come to be known to collectors as the 'Baby Fada' because of its small size. Catalin cabinet has no cracks or chips; however it has the common small hairline off the back screw hole and a mild tube burn that blends nicely with the color. matching onyx green insert grille and fluted knobs are original and have no cracks, chips or repairs. Wonderful Deco Machine Age RCA Victor model 9-SX Radio known as the 'Little Nipper' in marbleized Beetle Plastic. This 1939 model is an incredibly well designed streamlined tube radio. This rare little set is highlighted by its green + orange marbleizing. This little radio is constructed of 3 separate plaskon Bakelite pieces, first is the red plaskon body, second is the ivory Plaskon wrap-around deco grill with the great RCA Victor logo engraved vertically on the rounded corner, and third + lastly is the top plaskon stepped trim piece. Even though these midget sized radios were popular in their time and offered in many color combinations, they have become hard to find in any combination due to its fragile plaskon case. Radio is in great original condition + has a beautiful luster to the cabinet and all original trim. Cabinet has no cracks, tube burns or repair to cabinet. Matching Beetle wrap-around grille and top trim have no damage as well. Radio has the original red knobs and the original matching rear red knob that are free of any damage. Great small Federal 159 'Circle' 1937/38 radio in a beautiful finely grained book-matched walnut veneers with black edge detail. Unusual modern radio for its time was advertised as "beautiful and graceful---yet striking in appearance" due to its circular design combined and small size. The simple cabinet is highlighted by a large round dial face trimmed in brass and two ball brass/gold feet. Circular radios were only manufactured by a few brand names during the late 1930's; thus making it d difficult design to acquire. This radio design can also be found branded as a Silver with a different dial scale and label; see original advertisement. The radios cabinet has recently been refinished and it is stunning. This radio is among the most streamlined Art Deco radios to be found. The design is a refreshing, futuristic departure from the heavy ornate cabinets of the time. The cabinet is a dynamic downward swooping shape accentuated by four lateral side fins that evoke movement + speed. The teardrop design and fins reminds me of the design used on indoor speed cycling helmets.....really aerodynamic. Beautiful + bright Emerson AU-190 radio from 1937 in a Green or Brazilian Onyx as Emerson referred to it. Radio is absolutely stunning with its marbleized and translucent cabinet.....you can see through parts of the radio as seen in photos. The green Catalin cabinet is marbleized with tones of green, yellow, clear and brown that add depth to an already beautiful radio. The radio is in original, untouched condition, and is just a great example of this color Emerson 'Tombstone' model. Radio cabinet is in perfect condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs and has a beautiful gloss to it. The 3 matching catalin knobs are perfect + original to the radio. Gold fabric grill cloth is original + in good condition showing only a small amount of age and use. Water-slide decal + dial plastic are correct replacements. Radio has small scratches consistent with age + use of set. This beautiful green Emerson radio is absolutely striking and would make a fantastic addition to a radio collection. Radio measures approximately: 7" wide by 10" high by 5" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician prior to use.
