Kadette 'Classic' Radio Model K-12 in Ivory and Green Plaskon - Scarce
Seldom Seen Kadette Model
Scarce Kadette K-12 ‘Classic’ made in 1936 by the International Radio Corporation of Ann Arbor, Michigan. This example with its ivory body and green colored top made of plaskon and a marbled green tenite grill and knobs is rather striking. Ads of the time boasted that this was the first radio made from 3 different plastics. An interesting radio that was designed to be viewed from all angles, with the back of the radio similar to the front. Their aesthetic appeal and scarcity have made these rare to find. The chassis is heavy and the plaskon cabinet fragile, so most didn't survive and the ones that surface usually have cabinet damage. It is difficult to find an example that is in such wonderful condition. This radio is in original, untouched condition, with a beautiful and natural gloss. The ivory cabinet and green top are in great condition with no chips, tube burns or repairs; however the cabinet has a couple tight hairlines. The fragile tenite grills have some of the warp that is common to this radio’s grilles. Knobs are original to the radio and also in great condition. Grill cloths and dial plastic are correct replacements. Radio measures approximately 9.25" wide x 7.5" high x 6.5" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete.
