Stunning Catalin Sentinel 'Wavy Grill' model 284 radio in marbleized sand with yellow trim. The glossy sand colored catalin cabinet has beautiful yellow, orange and brown marbleizing that really adds depth to the cabinet. This radio was made circa 1945 by The Sentinel Radio Company of Evanston, Illinois Known to collectors as 'Wavy Grill' Sentinel, the designers surely drew inspiration from the automotive world. Along with the insert Catalin speaker grill and the slant front frequency indicator, the dial glass allows for easy viewing from above the radio as well, and acts as an additional architectural touch to make an already attractive radio into a true work of art. This set would make this radio a truly beautiful addition to any collection. The radio is just a stunning example of this Catalin Sentinel model. Manufactured in 1939 by Sentinel Radio Corporation, out of Illinois. This model is seldom seen and came in three-color combinations. The catalin has a deep shine, rich color and glow and also has exceptionally striking clear, yellow , orange + red colorful marbleizing. The model 955 is known to collectors as the 'Oval-Dial' The Tom Thumb name is a perfect fit for this radio - as it is one of the smallest radios made of catalin. This model has a design that is unique with attached Catalin feet, an oval-shaped dial face, Deco grill cutouts, and vertically positioned knobs. This marbleized yellow example is all original + in great condition with a beautiful glossy finish. Rare + Beautiful Ivory Raymond Loewy designed Colonial "New World" Globe Type 158 is a striking and unusual Plaskon tube radio. Resembling a world globe this 1933 patented this radio is early and very different from other novelty radios of the time. Circling the globe at its equator is a metal ring with knobs on either side. Above this, at the top, is a decorative brass finial showing the compass directions. The globe's intuitive design allows it to rotate 180 degrees on its base. The condition of this rare radio is as close to perfect as can be found very few have survived intact. Strong Art Deco elements are at the very heart of this 1933 models design, including, stepped "Skyscraper" top design, molded vertical convex ribbing and the chrome trim that heightens the cabinet's exceptional look. The jet black cabinet is set off by the chrome trim with its three interlocking grill design, fluted handle and ball feet that are unique to this model. This model is seldom seen in bakelite, more commonly seen is the wood version. The radio is original, with a beautiful + natural gloss and is just a superb example of this Colonial model.
