Seldom Seen British Globe Radio

Ref: RA567

This seldom seen rose color Champion Electric 'Venus' tube radio is made of acrylic and is in the form of a globe, supported on four twisted transparent acrylic arms and a square base. Made made by the Champion Electric Corporation Ltd, 1947, in Great Britain. Plastics could be manufactured in almost any shape, widening the scope for modernist designers and it was possible to produce a fashionable rose color and an exciting form. The radio when plugged in lites-up from the inside, which makes the radio glow. This interesting feature along with the use of different materials makes for a highly unusual and rare Art Deco radio.

This example in rose or light pink is in great original condition with no cracks, chips, burns and is just a stunning original radio. Radio has the original knobs and all the twisted acrylic is also original.  Chrome base has some minor pitting consistent with age of the item.

Radio measures approximately: 9.5" round by 11.5" high . This set is sold 'as-is + untested', I believe it to be 220V but i am not sure, the chassis seems complete. Set is being sold as a 'non-working' vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician.
