Kadette 'Classic' Radio Model K-12 in Ivory and Green Plaskon - Beautiful
Seldom Seen Kadette Deco Model
Ref: RA1058
Beautiful and scarce Kadette K-12 ‘Classic’ made in 1936 by the International Radio Corporation of Ann Arbor, Michigan. This example with its ivory body and green colored top made of plaskon and a marbled green tenite grill and knobs is rather striking. Ads of the time boasted that this was the first radio made from 3 different plastics. An interesting radio that was designed to be viewed from all angles, with the back of the radio similar to the front. Their aesthetic appeal and scarcity have made these rare to find. With its heavy chassis and closed design that retained heat combined with the fragility of the plaskon cabinets, most didn't survive and the ones that surface usually have cabinet damage. It is difficult to find an example that is in good condition.
This radio is in original, untouched condition, with a beautiful and natural gloss. The ivory cabinet and green top are in great condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs; it's really a great example. The fragile tenite grills have some of the warp that is common to this radio’s grilles. Knobs are original to the radio and also in great condition. Cardboard bottom panel with manufacturers sticker is original to the radio and in great condition. Dial plastic and grill cloth are a correct replacements. This beautiful KADETTE has been well taken care of and has very few small scratches consistent with light use. This great radio would make a great addition to any radio or Art Deco collection.
Radio measures approximately 9.25" wide x 7.5" high x 6.5" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician.
