Kadette 'Classic' Radio Model K-11 in Ivory and Yellow Plaskon - Scarce
Seldom Seen Kadette Deco Model
Ref: RA1040
Scarce Kadette K-11 ‘Classic’ made in 1936 by the International Radio Corporation of Ann Arbor, Michigan. This example with its ivory body and yellow colored top is a French export model with the black, red and white dial written in French with European city names, it also has a shortwave/broadcast with on the back that the US version did not have. This example made of ivory, yellow plaskon and a marbled translucent yellow tenite grills is rather striking. Ads of the time boasted that this was the first radio made from 3 different colored plastics. An interesting radio that was designed to be viewed from all angles, with the back of the radio similar to the front. Their aesthetic appeal and scarcity have made these rare to find. With its heavy chassis and closed design combined with the fragility of the plaskon cabinet, most didn't survive and the ones that surface usually have cabinet damage. It is difficult to find an example that is in good condition.
This radio is in original, untouched condition, with a beautiful and natural gloss. The ivory cabinet and yellow top are in great condition with no chips, tube burns or repairs; however the cabinet has a tight hairline to the right of the dial. The fragile tenite grills have some of the warp that is common to this radio’s grilles. Matching yellow knobs are original to the radio and also in great condition. Grill cloths are period correct replacements with similar color/pattern to originals. Bottom cardboard panel and dial plastic are correct replacements. This beautiful KADETTE has been well taken care of and has very few small scratches consistent with light use. This great radio would make a great addition to any radio or Art Deco collection.
Radio measures approximately 9.25" wide x 7.5" high x 6.5" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete; cord is cut. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician.
