Rare Early Deco Black Bakelite Colonial with Chrome Trim

Ref: RA447

Black bakelite Colonial 300 radio with chrome trim. This 1933 Colonial Durez Bakelite radio is one of, if not the first "plastic" radios ever produced. Strong Art Deco elements are at the very heart of this 1933 models design, including, stepped "Skyscraper" top design, molded vertical convex ribbing and the chrome trim that heightens the cabinet's exceptional look.  The jet black cabinet is set off  by the chrome trim with its three interlocking grill design, fluted handle and ball feet that are unique to this model.  This model is seldom seen in bakelite, more commonly seen is the wood version.

The radio is original, with a beautiful + natural gloss and is just a superb example of this Colonial model. The jet black Bakelite cabinet is in incredible original condition with no cracks, chips, burns, or repairs. Radio retains the original black knobs, chrome trim, dial escutcheons and black lacquered back panel with the Colonial decal. Also included is the original 1933 owners manual for the radio. The original chrome trim on the radio has bee re-chromed and looks great. Silver and black grill cloth is period and pattern correct grill cloth replacement.  Radio has been well taken care of and only shows some scratches consistent with age + careful use.

This radio measures approximately:  10" wide by 9" high to top of chrome handle by 5" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete.  Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician
