Great 3-Color Catalin Clock
Rare laminated New Haven Catalin Bakelite desk clock from the 1930's. This small round catalin is beautiful with its three stripes of catalin laminated together, the two-tones of yellow (possibly originally orchid and alabaster) along with the black make for great clock. Rarely does this style bakelite clock show up. These little catalin clocks look great as a collection as seen in the last photo. Clock case has no cracks, chips or repairs. Clock face with its great Art Deco numerals and design is original and in good condition. Silver metal bezel surround and ball feet, have only a small amount of wear/corrosion that is consistent with age. Measures approximately: 3" round by 1.5" deep. Clock is is sold "as-is + untested", seems complete and is not over-wound. Stunning Gilbert Rohde Machine Age electric clock model 4706 manufactured by the Herman Miller Clock Company. This clock model was exhibited at the1933-34 World's Fair in Chicago. Strong Art Deco elements are at the very heart of this model's design, including a chrome-ringed face that sits on a brushed aluminum base, with three speed-lines cut into it. The opalescent painted face has streamline dot hour markers, hands, and a red second hand that heighten the appeal of this rare clock. This is a truly striking design. The condition of this iconic clock can only be described as near mint. It is obvious that this clock has been well taken care of and only shows some fine scratches and light pitting on chrome consistent with light careful use and age. Clock base retains the original brown felt still affixed to the bottom. Dial glass is original with no cracks or chips. The unusual hour hand and large face is characteristic of his clock designs of the period. The bold grain pattern in the Macassar veneer accentuates its sleek, horizontal design. A single chrome rib wraps the width of the clock, and the clock body rests on a recessed chrome base giving it a floating impression. This clock is often refereed to as the "Tide" clock. This iconic clock has been featured in many volumes of design books, and important auctions. The condition of this iconic clock is great. Exceedingly rare Lackner Neon-Glo Art Deco 'Dulcy' in marbled translucent orchid catalin clock made in the 30's and 40's in Cincinnati, Ohio. The orchid color found on this example is so rare not many know of its existence, only two.. The "Dulcy' made by Lackner is the only catalin case clock that lites-up with a neon giving the cabinet + dial a beautiful warm glow, setting it apart from other clocks manufactured in the 1940s. Distinctive Art Deco features of the clock include the abstract numerals, streamlined ribbed metal trim + stepped skyscraper design. This orchid pink Lackner has a beautiful gloss to the case and is highly marbleized with tones of, orchid, white + clear that add depth to the catalin....this is truly a unique piece. Cabinet has no cracks, burns or repairs. It has a tiny chip on the rear top center of cabinet that is difficult to discern and a small hairline on the bottom caused by the shrinking of the catalin cabinet around the metal back, which is common for Lackner catalin body clocks.
